DailyMail reports that the fire started in the engine, before engulfing the £300,000 (N86.3M) luxury ride.

The driver managed to escape unharmed, thanks to a passerby, who alerted him.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, an eyewitness named Dan Jenks, said, "This chap was sitting in traffic and I heard the car revving then someone shouted, "Your car is on fire".

It started off as a small flame on the side and then it escalated very quickly getting close to the engine. At the start, it just looked like the exhaust was flaming like some super cars do.

The police got everybody as far back as possible."

Amanda Compton, another witness, said, "The driver was revving up the car at traffic lights in a queue, there was a loud bang and the engine caught fire.

Amazingly passersby were standing next to it watching. It could have gone up at any moment.

Traffic chaos ensued and emergency services were quickly on the scene to close the road and put out the fire as black smoke filled underneath the bridge."

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, within ten minutes.
