Company takes step to curb building collapse

Lafarge Africa carried out a research and discovered that there was a need to be met in the industry.

The influx of non-professionals un-skilled labourers in the building industry has led to the collapse of many buildings and countless loss of lives.

Lafarge Africa, as part of its contribution to ensure safer buildings, and also to reduce the rate of building collapse, organised a training for members of the National Association of Block Moulders of Nigeria (NABMON).

According to The Guardian,“The training of the Block Moulders which was held recent in Ogun State, was among other innitiative by the company to evaluate quality procedure for the production of concrete blocks, be acquainted with functional requirements for blocking moulding and discuss the why ensuring the quality of  sandcrete is important.”

Relationship Manager,Lafrage Precast and Block-Making Segment, Mr. Adesoji Okesina, said 'The parley was borne out of the company’s passion to ensure standard quality blocks in construction and to enlighten discuss best practices in the use of cement for block moulding.'

Adding that 'Lafarge Africa carried out a research and discovered that there was a need to be met in the industry, it launched a product, called Elephant Supaset in December 2010, which among other uses, meets the specific needs of block moulders, having been attested to as the best for block moulding.'

He also urged the block moulders to maintain the standards, and stick to the laid down rules of production.

Speaking on behalf of the block moulders, National President of the National Association of Block Moulders of Nigeria (NABMON), Alhaji Rasheed Adebowale thanked Lafarge for the training and also requested that the company should help its members by creating a credit facility scheme.

The representative of Lafarge Africa promised to look into the request.
