Carmakers develop new alert system to prevent accidents

Nissan, Renault, Peugeot, more have developed a new alert system that warns pedestrians of silent electric cars.

The eVADER at work

Accidents are as a result of a lot of things including pedestrians walking into the path of cars.

With normal cars, pedestrians suffer a lot, however, the advent of silent electric cars will only make the situation.

To combat this particular problem, 11 companies,  the EU, carmakers Nissan, Renault and Peugeot put in three years’ worth of work into developing a new alert system called the eVADER.

According to autoexpress, the eVADER consists of a camera in the car’s windscreen that can detect pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

The eVADER works by beaming a noise(5db lower than that produced by a conventional petrol or diesel engine) at detected pedestrians in order to alert them of the EV’s presence.

Here is what David Quinn, Nissan’s e-VADER Project Leader, says about the alert system:

“Our objective has been to find an optimum balance between ensuring the cars are detectable, whilst retaining the reduction in noise pollution, which is one of the great benefits that our EVs offer.”
