South Africa's rand fell by more than one percent to the dollar on Wednesday as global risk appetite faded following the release of data from the United States that strengthened the greenback.

By 1000 GMT, the rand had weakened 1.03 percent to 15.7500 per dollar, falling along with other emerging currencies as bets that the Federal Reserve may hike interest rates cooled desire for risky assets.
