Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State

Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko has spent at least N3billion on physically challenged persons during his tenure, according to a government official.

According to the Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Lawal Maidoki the funds were disbursed over the space of eight years.

Maidoki disclosed this on Sunday, May 3, 2015, adding that the amount was spent as payment of monthly allowances to 6,866 physically-challenged persons who received N6,500 on a monthly basis.

“The state government has been unfailingly giving N45 million monthly to the committee for the gesture. The gesture is aimed at alleviating the suffering of the people and curb street begging, and the payment of Zakkat is compulsory while giving out endowments is voluntary but highly encouraged,” he said.
