The World Bank has donated $500 million (N99.5 billion) to Nigeria for the purpose of improving maternal and child health in the country.

The fund was approved by the World Bank Group’s Board of Executive Directors through the International Development Association.

14 per cent of annual maternal deaths worldwide are from Nigeria while the country accounts for 13 per cent of all global deaths of children under the age of five years.

According to Country Director, Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly, the program will help strengthen Nigeria’s health system and development.
