LASTMA officials clash with 'Keke Napep' drivers

The Nation reports that LASTMA officials have been accused of bribery and extortion.

"They make us suffer for no just cause because half of the money we make daily goes to the union, the Police and LASTMA officials, among others,” one driver said.

Another Keke rider, Kehinde Anjola, called the officials lazy.

"The officials are very lazy and cannot work, if you ask them to do what we are doing, they can’t.”

The Keke riders also protested against their union’s leadership, and the police, which led to a fight at Cele Bus stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

A Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) official told gave details of the fight.

“The Keke drivers started this fight because they claim they are being ripped off by their association. During the protest, the police in Cele brought more policemen from their Divisional Headquarters to contain the situation. Hours later, we heard sound of gun shots fired by the policemen to scare away the protesters after which the police left one of their vehicles here to monitor the situation.”
