Court orders GRA to re-open closed down Energy Insurance Co.

The International Energy Insurance Company took the GRA to Fast Track High Court, last week, after the GRA closed it down on Friday for allegedly evading tax to the tune of GHC1.3 million.

 

An Accra Fast Track High Court has ordered the Ghana to  reopen the offices of the International Energy Insurance Company.The International Energy Insurance Company took the GRA to Fast Track High Court, last week, after the GRA closed it down on Friday for allegedly evading tax to the tune of  GHC1.3 million.

The Company sued the GRA, describing the closure as illegal.

Head of the Revenue Mobilization Taskforce at the GRA, Theophilus Gaskin says although they do not agree with the court’s decision, they would comply once they are served with a notice.The GRA which has been battling a decrease in its targets following an increase in tax evasion, last week announced it had begun investigating a number of multinational companies in the country, suspected of massive evasion of tax through profit shifting.
