Agency records lighter traffic, fewer crashes in Abia, Ebonyi, more
Due to the Federal Road Safety Commission's hard work and commitment, there have been lighter traffic and no major crashes in the South East.
FRSC Zonal Commander of South East, Mr Samuel Obayemi, said his team worked hard to achieve this feat.
"Looking at this yuletide generally, we were able to make meaningful impact. People traveled with less stress because we increased the number of personnel in critical road corridors. We also had to bring in more patrol vehicles. With a lot of sensitisation in the area of public enlightenment and education through the radio and television, we were able to reduce crashes to the barest minimum.
We started the special yuletide patrol on Dec. 22; I must tell you that we have not really recorded any major crash. Most of the crashes we have recorded are just minor crashes that involved injuries. We never really recorded fatal crashes around this yuletide."
Areas with reduced traffic include the 9th Mile Corner, Obollo-Afor, Enugu-Abakaliki road and Enugu-Port Harcourt road.
"I had to go on aerial surveillance on Dec. 31 and the traffic was a little bit lighter. It was lighter than what we normally experienced around the areas we carried out the surveillance."
