Agency arrests 44 traffic offenders, convicts 38 in Ogun state

The traffic offenders were tried before a mobile court.

On Friday, October 23rd, the  Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrested 44 traffic offenders in Ogun state.

Their offences included drivers’ licencing, seatbelt, tyre violations and driving with shattered windscreen.

According to Mr Leye Adegboyega, FRSC Unit Commander, the offenders were taken to a mobile court presided by Magistrate Olayinka Idowu.

"The commission has mandated that the traffic offenders should be prosecuted in court to serve as deterrent to other road users, especially this period of ember months. And one of commission’s strategic goals is the enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations through prosecution of offenders in mobile court. The mobile court was set up as part of the steps to reduce road crashes as well as creating safer environment for the Nigerian roads as the year ends."

Six people were discharged and acquitted, while thirty eight were found guilty and convicted.

On Wednesday, October 21st, 42 traffic offenders were arrested in Osun state.

They were also tried before a Mobile Court.
