According to the Governor, Willie Obiano, this will reduce the high rate of building collapses.
Anambra state to stop epidemic with two building materials testing laboratories
Anambra state government has come up with a plan to stop building collapses.
Speaking at the scene of a collapsed uncompleted three-storey students’ hostel in Oko, Orumba North LGA, the governor said the addition of these new labs to the existing one in Awka, should provide quality control needs in the building industry.
Governor Obiano also urged contractors to stick to building regulations, adding that the two student hostels located near the collapsed one would be tested.
“The safety of students and every resident remain a major concern to my government, hence we will not hesitate to pull down these structures, if they fail the structural resistance test,” he said.
These new laboratories will be located in Onitsha and Nnewi.
