Luxury carmakers like Lamborghini and Bentley are straying from their traditional sports cars and sedans to SUV’s and the latest to catch the bug is Aston Martin.

Aston Martin reportedly plans to release an SUV for which the carmaker has received a lot of funding already. Aston has been known to be a top quality performance and luxury automobile manufacturer.

A standard for elegance and matching performance have been the company’s driving tenets and it has been so influential that it is the staple car of every James Bond character.

According to reports, Aston martin has received funding of about $305 million for the design and production of the new DBX as well as other luxury models. The DBX is supposed to be the first of three new models that Aston is reportedly working on.

Aston Martin says it hopes the new 4-door crossover SUV will appeal to buyers in places like Russia and China where the DB9 and the Vanquish have not really taken off.

“This additional long-term funding will enable us to add extra model lines and broaden our presence in the luxury market segment by the end of the decade,” CEO Andy Palmer said in a statement. “The DBX concept has generated interest far beyond our expectations; the additional investment announced today will allow us to realize the DBX and other new luxury vehicles that will form the strongest and most diverse portfolio in our history.”
