NSCDC to deploy 2,500 officials in Ogun

The Federal Government declared Friday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 4 as public holidays in commemoration of Eid-el-Kabir.

It said special attention would be given to critical government infrastructure, prayer grounds, motor parks and other places that could attract high concentration of people during the period.

According to the command’s spokesman, Mr Dyke Ogbonnaya, the 20 Local Government Areas and the 37 Local Council Development Areas will be policed by his men.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government has declared Friday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 4 as public holidays in commemoration of the Eid-el-Kabir.

Ogbonnaya said the move had become necessary in a bid to check the activities of some unscrupulous elements, who might want to take advantage of the festive period to engage in criminal acts.

“We have noted from experience that they often attack government’s critical infrastructure and other assets like petroleum and gas pipelines and telecommunications installations at festive periods.

“The State Commandant, Mr Akinwande Aboluwaye, has advised the people to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement to the nearest NSCDC office or contact the agency through the following numbers — 08033632778, 08050726803, 07067528776,’’ he said said in a statement in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
