I will try anything once, especially if I have an opportunity to write about it.
The first time I ever touched myself to completion, I used a humectant hair conditioner. I still recall the scent of it.
But with the exception of the time I used an oral numbing gel on my penis because I wanted to find out if it would actually help improve my longevity, I’ve stuck mostly with basic lotions. I never gave much thought to gels or lotions that could improve the experience. I already really enjoy whacking off, and if I enjoyed it much more I might never leave my house again.
However, I will try anything once, especially if I have an opportunity to write about it. So when I was presented with the chance to try out Sinclair Select’s Organic Intimate Arousal Balm ($25, shop.womenshealthmag.com), I jumped at it. The balm is made for women, namely, women who have difficulties getting aroused—something I can't really relate to. But according to the product’s description on the Women’s Health Boutique, this is something up to 50 percent of women experience (which explains a lot about my sex life).
I came home from running some errands one Saturday afternoon to find that my tube of balm had arrived (discreetly!) in the mail. Shortly thereafter, my date for the evening had to reschedule because she was sick.
I decided to stay in and have what I like to call a “me-evening,” starting with self-pleasure enhanced by arousal balm.
As per the instructions on the tube, I kneaded the tube to mix and soften the solution. You’re supposed to apply a small fingertip amount to the clitoris and then begin your journey to masturbatory bliss, but since I do not have a clitoris I squirted out a bunch and rubbed it all over my penis.
It smelled wonderful and the oily consistency made for easy, comfortable rubbing. I didn't need any other lotion or lubricant.
The peppermint oil in the solution is supposed to help enhance sensitivity, increase blood flow, and improve both arousal and sexual response. And it worked pretty much immediately. See, masturbating for dudes feels great, but not all that great until you’re approaching climax.
This balm definitely made a difference in that regard. It almost immediately gave me a tingling sensation in every area I applied it, which was super-enjoyable. The tingles actually lasted the entire time I was pumping away. I would say that this trip to the spank bank was almost as much about the journey as it was about the destination (the orgasm).
And when I did get off, I got off. Ask any guy: Orgasms that occur while you’re actually having sex with someone are much more intense than when you’re getting yourself off. And while this time wasn’t as intense as orgasming with another human, it was more intense than I’m used to—in a very pleasant way.
I concluded that while this is labeled as a feminine product, there’s plenty of benefit to be found for anyone.
Would I try it again? Well, about an hour later, I decided to go for round two. I used the lube again, to pretty much the same effect. My only caution: Don't squeeze the bottle too hard because it might explode. Whoops.
