Rita Dominic, Kemi Adetiba and MI's engagements are reminders to fall in love on your own terms

This year we witnessed so many high profile celebrity engagements. Kemi Adetiba is 42 years old and she is engaged to music executive, Oscar Heman-Ackah. Rita Dominic, 46 years old got engaged to Fidelis Anosike and rapper MI Abaga, 40 years old, got engaged to Eniola Mafe who is 37 years.

One thing that is common with these people is that they are all above 40 years old. When MI released his engagement video, we were blown away because he carefully documented their relationship. Single people even added, "uses a camera to take candid pictures" to their list of requirements.

Even though we said 'aww' and 'congratulation', we have to admit that it took a lot of patience for the right one to come along.

In an age where people get married in their 20s, feeling like 'God when' and rushing into a relationship just to post online and 'pepper' people is rampant. Not to mention the fact that we all thought we would be married by '25' or '30' tops.

Everyday, someone from your university group is getting married or are posting their babies online meanwhile there you are alone on a Saturday night.

Finding love in your 20s is awesome but what is better is finding the love of your life at the right time.

No one knows how these celebrities felt while they were waiting, but they seemed to enjoy their lives, celebrate others and hit one milestone achievement or the other. Rita Dominic started her own movie production company, Kemi Adetiba had the widely successful series and movies, ‘King of Boys' and ‘The Wedding Party.’ MI has gone on to release many successful projects.

But for Millenials when they reach 30 years they put their entire lives on hold because they haven’t found love, thinking they cannot be happy without it.

The desperation for love makes finding love even harder and makes making a mistake easier. Little by little, we drop our criteria - you want a man who loves to share and express his feelings but you settle for whoever is available.

The desire in itself is valid and even searching for love is not a bad thing but have the patience to wait for the right one.

While you wait for the love of your life, they should meet happy. You need to be happy while single so that when you are in a committed relationship there is no unhealthy codependency.

What you desire is to be happy and loved - in that order. So be happy while you wait to be loved and you're not missing out on anything that can't be gotten sooner or later. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with you the way you are! You will be found by the one that suits you.

Finally, don’t sleep with the entire community because you are single, don’t jump on every attractive person even when you know they are no good for you, it'll just leave you with more scars than it is worth. Be patient, love will come.
