Dorcas and Festus connected at first sight and are wedding on May 20, 2017! Not all good things come to an end...
And when the time is right, they just happen… effortlessly and beautifully…
So on that special day when Dorcas Awotunde first set her eyes on Festus Ashaolu in Kwara state few years back, it took just an instant for something to click into place within her, and for her heart to reach out to his.
It was a connection created at first sight... a fairytale triggered at the first words the lovebirds spoke to each other.
Dorcas owns a confectionary company, Saint Dorcy Confectioneries while Festus is the CEO of Shield Protocol and Security Services.
The couple, whose wedding takes place on Saturday, May 20, 2017, share details of their love story with Pulse Weddings below:
How we met (Bride)
It was one of those days you just wake up in the morning and you know it's going to be a good day. It was a rainy Wednesday morning when I bumped into this cute dark man in the office.
He wore a navy blue shirt and, errm, can't remember the colour of the trousers as I was okay with the top (giggles). My first impression was "wawu, this guy is cute". We nodded to each other and I went my way.
On getting back to my office, he was already there, filling some documents...I thought to myself, "Hmmm, the devil is a liar."
I was drawn to him automatically and the flirty part of my sanguine nature sprung up.
He wasn't much of a talker that day but I knew there was no going back. I told him I loved his shirt, he smiled and said, "thank you."
"Thank you ke? Is that all Mr. Tall, dark and handsome is gonna say? Nah... not when I'm also cute in my black suit", I thought to myself.
I asked for his name and when he said it, I said "Ohhh, you're the man in Abuja! I've heard so much about you!! Ahhh, we are going to Abuja together o, let me go and pack my things o, I want to explore and live in the FCT too o, I want to upgrade!"
I went on and on and couldn't help myself. I just liked the guy. The fact that he was being cool and silent made me even want to torture him more with the open flirtation. (I'm a good girl though).
Then he needed a pen as the one he was using stopped working! He asked my colleagues, the God that I am serving made their pens disappear and it was mine that he later used.
I moved closer, checked out his handwriting, chatted him up a little and we exchanged numbers. I didn't ask for it as I had tried already. It was a relief when he asked for my number (Lol).
That was it!
Calls, messages, occasional visits...I prayed about it, had the conviction...and here we are! We are getting stronger! We are going to tie the knot soon!! Isn't God awesome?
I was flirting and God had already planned something bigger! I said I would follow him to Abuja and right now, I am packing those bags and getting ready to go to Abuja... and baby, we are gonna go all over the world... together...
Isn't God just so awesome???
How we met (Groom)
Coincidence is a coincidence only if you see it as just that.
I met my bae sometime last year when I was far from being a perfect man. We met her at a government office in Kwara State where I went to fill some documents.
Alas, I was 'biroless' and after asking around, the only person that had a pen was this amazing, yummy, cute 'cake-like' woman!
She complimented my shirt and I smiled in appreciation. She never knew I said to myself, "Hmmm this lady complimenting me doesn't know the 'badoo' that I am ooo"
! We exchanged numbers, days turned into weeks, weeks into months and here we are! We're getting married!
I got captivated by her charm, sense of humor and high spirits. She is beautiful both at heart and of course facially. You have made me realize heaven can indeed be enjoyed on earth.
That imperfect perfection you met just like yesterday has grown into a beautiful perfection you now call BAE, thanks to you. I love you forever and a day and a day and another day with other days, Kokoro Ifemi.
I got into town few days to her birthday, Dec 3rd. I knew I was coming to propose but I didn't know how I was going to get it done, neither did I know when the perfect moment was going to be.
December 3rd came and I just decided to be spontaneous and sensitive.
I woke up with my heart pounding like I got a blacksmith somewhere in there but I chose to control me emotions.
First surprise, I took a makeup artist to her house as a surprise to doll her up. The plan was to get in without being seen so the makeup artiste positioned her in such a way that she was backing the entrance to the room.
During the makeup session, I silently sneaked a birthday cake into the room. After she was done, she turned and voila! I presented the cake, wishing her a happy birthday!
All the while, I had the ring in my pocket but I just didn’t feel it was the right moment.
I took her to the movies (we saw 2 movies actually and all the while, I was still pondering on how to go about my assignment).
After the movies, I took her to her house to change and freshen up and then I took her to an academic centre. I invited a few friends and their girlfriends and we got into game playing mood.
We started playing air hockey right there, THE IDEA CAME! I decided I'd let her think she was winning by conceding goals a lot, and when I noticed she was carried away with excitement, I switched the puck with my ring case as it was my turn to serve.
I hit it towards her, she was almost hitting it back thinking it was the puck and at the last moment realized what it actually was... A RING CASE!
She got overwhelmed and covered her face. I moved closer to her, took the ring case, dropped on on a bent knee and asked her to be my bride.
With tear-filled eyes, she said YES!!! We kissed and went to have a 'proposal hang out'.
Best decision I've ever made yet!
Bride's speaks about the proposal
I was actually expecting the proposal but I had no idea how it was going to be. I wanted my birthday to be different, I didn't want that day to go just like that, I wished he would propose that day but I had no idea how.
What made me feel he might propose that day was that he was always sending me cute proposal videos on Instagram, asking whether I'd prefer an indoor or outdoor proposal and stuffs like that.
I knew he would propose but I didn't know how... though I had known my answer right from that Wednesday! (Giggles).
I didn't plan to cry but I did. I never knew I was gonna cry. The emotion was overwhelming. The reality dawned on me that it was real!
The man I wanted, wanted me too! The man I loved, loved me too! The man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, wanted same too!
The kind of wedding we want
We want a beautiful wedding ceremony but at the same time, we are more concerned about the marriage itself. Hence, we resolved to have a simple but yet memorable wedding ceremony.
