Before 2014 finally drops the curtains, let's quickly take a look at all the big celebrity weddings that held us spellbound this year.

Nigerians are known for lavish weddings and couples are increasingly becoming very creative with their nuptials, but there were some that just broke all the records, being bigger and more glamorous than anything we've ever seen.

With that said, let's take you through our top 6 most expensive Nigerian celebrity weddings for 2014.

  1. Tsola Emiko and Ivie Okunbo: This wedding left us all wishing for a fairytale wedding - a (real) prince and a damsel. Tsola Emiko, the son of the Olu of Warri married his ladylove, Ivie Okunbo, the daughter of billionaire businessman, Captain Hosa Okunbo, in a traditional marriage ceremony which took place in Benin city, Edo state, on November 8, 2014. The extravagant wedding had monarchs, dignitaries, celebrities and political big wigs in attendance. At least 15 private jets were said to have been sent out to pick up wedding guests from different parts of the country. It was by far the most expensive celebrity wedding held in Nigeria this year. The white wedding was held at St Luke's Church in Chelsea, London, on November 15, 2014.

  2. Abdulazeez and Adejoke Adesoye: Lagos stood still on Saturday, October 25, 2014, when Abdulazeez, the son of popular businesswoman and diamonds merchant, Folashade Adunni Risiquat Adesoye, aka Shade Alesh, wed Adejoke, the daughter of an equally popular fabric merchant, Morufat Kalejaiye. The Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, never looked so good. The decor was simply breathtaking! This wedding literally "broke the internet" as celebrities and wedding guests went on social media to share photos from the ceremony. Some even posted photos of the centre pieces and cutlery! It was that grand. Prior to the wedding, the couple were just "regular" people, but the story has totally changed. That's why they are on this celebrity list.

  3. Faith Elizabeth Sakwe and Godswill Osim Edward: President Goodluck Jonathan's adopted daughter, Faith Elizabeth Sakwe, tied the knot with Godwin Osim Edward, on April 5, 2014, in Bayelsa State, and of course, it was a huge event. The white wedding took place at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja. A carnival-like reception followed at the International Conference Centre where guests were gifted with gold plated iPhones. The event was also a gathering of PDP chieftains, government officials and celebrities. Days after the wedding, the newlyweds travelled to London, Madrid, Paris, Barcelona, Venice, Rio De Janeiro and Dubai for their honeymoon.

  4. Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid: After a stylish traditional wedding held in Lagos, in November 2013, sexy singer, Tiwa Savage and her ex-manager, Tunji "Tee Billz" Balogun, turned up in Dubai on April 26, 2014, for their white wedding. Everybody who was anybody in the Nigerian music indusrty were there for the event which was totally unlike what we are used to. It was even held in the evening - totally "un-Nigerian". Guests were also treated to a yacht ride the day after. It was absolutely 'celebrity-ish'.

  5. Dr Sid and Simi Osomo: Mavin artiste, Sidney Esiri, popularly known as Dr Sid, married Simi Osomo, a personal shopper and trained lawyer, on Saturday, August 5, 2014, at the Ikoyi Baptist Church in Lagos, followed by a classy reception at the Oriental Hotel. The couple had earlier tied the knot in a grand traditional marriage ceremony that was held on July 27, 2014, also in Lagos. Simi wowed in three designer dresses, Carolina Herrera, Elie Saab and Roland Mouret, while the dashing groom stunned in a Tom Ford suit. The reception also featured a fun dance performance by Dr Sid and his groomsmen for his excited bride, who went from blushing to laughing really hard at the unexpected display. The couple later flew to Barbados for a romantic honeymoon.

  6. Koko Florence Mayen and Chimaobi Shawcross Obioha Jnr.: Senator Florence Ita-Giwa's daughter, Koko Florence Mayen, wed her handsome groom, Chimaobi Shawcross Obioha Jnr. on September 20, 2014, at the Methodist Church of the Trinity in Lagos. The recepetion which took place at Convention Centre inside the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, reportedly caused a traffic jam on the Lagos island, as celebrities and dignitaries within and outside Nigeria made their way to the venue. Superstars, 2Face and Tiwa Savage performed at the event. The pair had their traditional marriage ceremony on September 13, 2014, in Calabar, Cross River state.
