Royal couple's 34-yr-old wedding cake up for auction

A 34-yr-old piece of cake from the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana is will be going on sale this week.

An auction firm, Nate D. Sanders in Los Angeles has announced that they'll be auctioning off a slice of the royal cake on Thursday, December 14.

Bidding will start at $1,100.

The cake according to Sanders auctions is a "a classic British fruitcake with cream cheese frosting".

It was made by the then-head baker of the Naval Armed Forces, David Avery, and was packaged in wax paper and a doily and held in a silver presentation box.

A gift note attached to the cake box read, "With best wishes from / Their Royal Highnesses / The Prince & Princess of Wales."

In September 2015, a piece of wedding cake from the 1947 royal wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip was sold for over $750.

Also in 2013, a piece of cake from Princess Kate and Prince William's 2011 wedding sold for over $4,000.
