Vicar Trips On Bride's Dress And Breaks Arm During Wedding Ceremony

The injured reverend was still able to rise to his feet and wave off the newly-wed couple before getting checked out at the hospital.

A vicar officiating at a wedding was literally swept off his feet when he tripped over the bride's dress and broke his arm.

Reverend Roger Scoones took a tumble as the party were set to walk back up the aisle and was rescued by groom Jon-Paul and his best man.

When Rev. Scoones did not immediately jump up following his fall, which happened in Stockport, the groom, Jon-Paul was worried that the damage was going to be a lot worse.

He said: "He did not get up and we all panicked and thought he had had a heart attack. The best man and I grabbed him and hauled him to his feet, he was very shaken up.

"Katie was a bit disturbed by it but it didn't take the shine of our special day."

Thankfully, he made sure that the incident did not halt the special day, as he got up and waved off the happy couple.

He later went to the hospital, where he found that he had broken his arm.

The Rev Scoones, who has been marrying couples for 33 years, told the Manchester Evening News: "It is a shame it wasn't caught on camera otherwise I would have sent it in to 'You've Been Framed'.

"The wedding was almost finished, I had done all the blessings, signed the registers, taken the photographs and sung the hymns.

"The wedding party was just about to set off down the aisle, I raised my arm to signal to the organist and as I walked behind the bride I slipped on her dress.

"I went for six and crashed to the ground of the church and fell heavily on my arm in full view of everyone."

Rev Scoones will now spend six weeks in plaster cast.
