If you have not, let’s tell you four great reasons why you absolutely should look forward to Muslim weddings with excitement!

Now this is perhaps the most beautiful thing about Islamic weddings. The religion allows for the recognition of the rich cultures of people. So when you get an invite to a Muslim wedding, don’t be surprised to see that there’ll be cultural dimensions to the celebrations, so far they do not negate the tenets of Islam.

This is a ceremony often involving the bride, her friends and female family members where intricately-done and artistic body art called Mehndi is done and displayed.

It is always delightful on brides and adds to the gorgeousness of their bridal look.

This is a perfect example of the cultural blends permitted at Muslim weddings as it is not Islamically compulsory but only permitted in recognition of a culture that has been widely practiced in Pakistan, India, Africa and the Middle East for over 5000 years.

This is another ceremony leading up to the Nikkah which involves the ladies. At this one, the bride, friends and everyone invited [including older, married and experienced women] come together to share wedding advise, stories, and experiences with the bride.

There are games, music fun and no-holds-barred educative conversations between the women and the bride.

In Islam, it is the Mahr that is compulsory and must be done. The bride price is optional.

At a Muslim wedding, the bride gets to ask and get one wish from her groom. This wish is her Mahr and it is not limited to money. Brides have been known to ask for Hajj trips, books, cash, The Holy Quran, etc.

Bride price paid to the family could be done but that is more in recognition of a tradition than following an Islamic principle.
