The bride's family were solidly behind their daughter alleging that the groom was ‘illiterate’ and ‘mentally unfit’

A bride simply had enough with her husband-to-be and called off their wedding when he couldn't answer some simple questions she asked him.

Khushboo Saxena in the Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh had cancelled after the groom, Omveer Singh of Auraiya couldn't count beyond nine aside failing to answer the questions she posed.

The bride's family were solidly behind their daughter alleging that the groom was ‘illiterate’ and ‘mentally unfit'. They thought the match was a good one after they were told that the groom was a graduate and owned 60 bighas of land, Huffington Post reports.

It was gathered that when the marriage ceremony began, one of the bride's friends told her the groom couldn't recite the wedding mantras properly.

To confirm her suspicion, Saxena decided to test her ' soon groom-not-to-be'.

She first handed him a few coins and asked him to add them up but Singh couldn't count beyond nine. She then told him to find the difference between 69 and 79, but he couldn't do that either.

The angry bride then handed the groom her phone, then asked him to dial her number but he failed too.

It was then Saxena decided to call off his wedding, she was unmoved after Singh pleaded with her, explaining that he couldn't answer her questions because he was "distracted by the DJ and there was too much noise at the venue".

The group of elders present at the wedding couldn't convince the bride to proceed with the ceremony, she was adamant about accepting the groom as her husband.

Finally, the two families agreed to return the dowry paid, including the gifts exchanged during the pre-wedding ritual.

Saxena whose goal was to become a teacher completed her studies till class 8 and would never accept an 'illiterate' for a husband, invited guests from the bride's side said.
