A groom and 50 of his wedding guests were struck by a bad case of suspected food poisoning from their wedding reception.

The wedding party was said to have taken place at the Hilton Brisbane in the Queensland capital’s CBD, food and drinks were provided by the hotel and a hired caterer, Daily Mail reports.

It was gathered that no less than three wedding guests were suffering from bad gastroenteritis, which causes vomiting and diarrhea, they required hospital attention.

Forty-seven other people excluding the groom were reported to have also suffered from gastroenteritis which prompted the Hilton staff to alert Queensland Health after an outbreak was confirmed.

The hotel is said to be working with public health officials to investigate the cause.

Daily Mail Australia reports that the Hilton Brisbane confirmed that 'some guests were reported ill after attending a wedding' at the hotel last week.

“We are co-operating with the Queensland Department of Health in their investigation.

"The wellbeing, health and safety of our guests are of paramount importance and the Hilton Brisbane continues to make every effort to ensure that all practices and standards are in line with strict health and safety regulations, “Hilton Brisbane said.
