Most people do not realise how much goes into being a bridesmaid, it is quite easy to belittle it by thinking it only involves slipping on a dress and standing in line, but it is way more than that.

Being a bridesmaid is very special because the bride picked you, not anyone else, you, to support/help her through one of the most incredible times of her life, so do not take this lightly.

The below are the dos and don'ts of the huge role.

  1. Help out with the planning process- Helping the bride with even something simple as spending time with the bride, talking through the wedding plans and just being there as sounding board is a really sweet way of showing your support.

  2. Be open-minded- Regardless of what it is you are asked to do, just do it because being a bridesmaid means pitching in.

  3. Be diplomatic- The bride may ask for your advice several times throughout the planning process, but she does not necessarily want your black-and-white opinion. So, choose your words carefully while trying to figure out  whether she wants a clear-cut stance or for you to support her choice.

  4. Focus on the bride- Though it might be easy to get distracted and indulge your own wedding plans, don't. Make it all about the bride.

  5. Get along with the other bridesmaids- Despite your opinions about the bridesmaids, try to be friends with them as this will make things easier on the bride, just try to fake it until after the wedding.

  6. Find out who the groomsmen are- This is to avoid any awkwardness during the many festivities leading up to the wedding.

  7. Respect the bride's wishes- As a bridesmaid, you have to always listen to whatever the bride says and do exactly, do not go against her wishes whether you agree with them or not.

  8. Be responsible- Regardless of how much you might be having, do not forget that you are there to simply help the bride.

  9. Take control when necessary- Try not to run to the bride for every single thing, instead learn to take control whenever there is a situation you can take handle without the bride.

  10. Be a stress reliever- Being a bride can be extremely stressful so try to help relieve her stress. You can do this by finding ways for her to have fun during the wedding preparations , just do whatever you need to do to help her loosen up and enjoy the day.
