Mpho Tutu, daughter of former Anglican archbishop of Cape Town, Desmond Tutu married her longtime lesbian partner Marceline van Furth in a private ceremony in South Holland, western Netherlands on Wednesday, December 30.
Rev. Tutu an ordained Episcopal priest, executive director and founder of the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage, was previously married to ex-husband Joseph Borris whom she had two children for.
Furth is a teacher at the Vrije University in Amsterdam in the area of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and an activist who campaigns against poverty, racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia.
The Nobel laureate who is an outspoken supporter of same-sex marriages was present at the wedding ceremony of his daughter and her lover.
Rev. Tutu and Furth are said to be planning a bigger ceremony for May 2016.
This is the second marriage for both women.
