South African athlete marries lesbian partner in traditional wedding ceremony

Semenya became popular in 2009 after winning a gold medal in the women’s 800m race at the IAAF World Championship in Berlin

 

South Africa a few days ago went wild on social media after photos of a popular female athlete getting married to her lesbian partner emerged.

Olympic gold medallist Caster Semenya, few days ago tied the knot with her longtime girlfriend and fellow athlete, Violet Raseboya.

The 24-yr-old athlete and her fiancée were dressed in traditional attire for the wedding which held in Ga-Dikgale in the Capricorn District of Limpopo, F.A.M.E SA Awards reported posting photos of the ceremony on their Facebook page.

“The happy couple seemed relaxed and calm while villagers ululated while others nodded in approval of this union,”  the report read.

Semenya became popular in 2009 after winning a gold medal in the women’s 800m race at the IAAF World Championship in Berlin.

She later won a silver medal at the 2011 World Championship in Daegu after passing a gender test.

She later won a silver medal in the 800m women race representing her country in 2012 at the London Olympics.

The couple got engaged in May 2014.
