After the declaration on Funmi Iyanda's show, New Dawn with Funmi, in 2004, his life came under serious death threats, forcing him to seek assylum in the United Kingdom.

Just before Bisi and Anthony's wedding ceremony last weekend, the Nigerian tweeted in reference to this when he wrote, "In Presence of friends & family from around the world, Anthony & I will say 'I Do'.

But we remember places in the world where love is crime."

Alimi has been recognised for activism on behalf of the gay community, including being added to The Gay UK LGBT 2014 Honour List in recognition of his exemplary work for 'Education in the LGBT Community' on January 1st 2014.

Happy married life, Bisi Alimi.
