The Vagina should be kept fresh and dry

The episode Pulse Daily where we tackled how to keep the vagina smelling fresh generated a lot of reactions from you guys and we appreciate that,it just means us ladies are keeping our intimate hygiene in top shape. As we all know every vagina has its on smell, but it should never smell fishy/offensive when it borders on that then there is an issue, usually hygiene related.

Today we'll quickly take on what to wash the vagina with; water or intimate washes? The truth is you don't need your vagina smelling like roses, fresh and clean is all you need. Vagina is self Cleansing. It actually doesn't need any help from scented soaps, feminine sprays or washes.

 Rinse your vagina with water

I am a huge advocate for that. Never use soaps, shampoos or other detergents to clean your vagina, but just rinse it regularly with warm water. This is because regular soaps and shampoos aren't suitable with the pH value of the vagina, which could create a better environment for bad bacteria to live, causing infections. Water is all natural and all you need

If you wish to use some kind of soapy product, try a special vaginal wash, with a pH that suits the pH of your vagina. These washes are to be mild and natural (or at least non-chemical!).

Feminine Washes have the following effects:

It changes the PH balance of the vagina; washing away the healthy bacteria it contains, making it prone to infection.

It irritates the Vagina most of the time which results in itching, discharges and more. In order to keep the vagina healthy, the following tips help

- Boil, bleach, steam iron or disinfect your underwear. Today's wash regimes do not effectively kill yeast spores. So you can reinfect yourself with your underwear.

- Avoid douching when you are not infected.

- Change your underwear twice a day. Yeasts like moist environments, so try to keep as dry as possible down there. Avoid tight jeans etc.

- Use only cotton underwear

- Do not wear panties when you sleep

- Treat your partner. Men can carry and pass on yeast infections with no symptoms. An anti-fungal treatment will make sure his penis is not reinfecting you.

- Be aware that taking antibiotics can affect your vaginal micro-fauna and make you more susceptible to infection

-Some women apply live-culture yoghurt down there. Swamping the environment with nice bacteria can help nasty micro

If you get other irritations or foul discharges, consult your gynae.
