Most people just chalked this up to the two media giants finally getting their s*** together, but in a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , Holland revealed that heand three pints of beerhad a very key part in settling the franchise dispute. Holland had previously e-mailed Disney CEO Bob Iger amidst the dispute to thank him for "changing his life," and Iger had decided to call Holland up himself, which Holland recounted on Kimmel:
"My family and I went to the pub quiz in our local, like, town. We're doing a quiz and I'm, like, three pints in, right? I haven't eaten much and I get a phone call from an unknown number. And I have a feeling, I'm like, 'I think this is Bob Igerbut I'm drunk.' But I basically just said thank you for the opportunity and he said, 'There is a world in which we can make this work.' And there was a bunch of phone calls back and forth from [Sony Pictures chairman] Tom Rothmanhe was really instrumental in the process. And it was really interesting for me to these, like, two studio heads, like, 'What do you think?'"
Iger had previously recounted that Holland had "cried on the phone" to him, and Holland confirmed those rumors...sort of. "I weeped. No, I didn't weep. Yeah, no, I was really emotional because I felt like it was all coming to an end," Holland explained to Kimmel.
So there you have it folksif you ever want to save your job, get drunk and cry on the phone to your boss. (J.K. that's horrible adviceplease don't do that).
