This CrossFit Athlete Set an Unofficial World Record for the Memorial Day Murph Challenge

Monday saw fitness enthusiasts all over the country take part in CrossFit's annual Memorial Day Murph Challeng e, a physically grueling WOD named for Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy that honors the lives of service members lost in combat.

This CrossFitter Just Did 16 Murphs in a Row

The Murph consists of a 1-mile run, 300 squats, 200 pushups, 100 pullups, and another 1-mile run. On Memorial Day, a number of participants opted for the Hero Murph WOD, where the entire thing is done while wearing a 20-pound weighted vest.

Among them was Lee Davis from Charleston, South Carolina, who set out to break records by performing as many Murphs as possible in a 24-hour period.

"I wanted to try my hand at setting a world record," Davis told ABC News . "I wondered 'what is the most Murphs done in 24 hours?' Memorial Day coming up and I've had a fast Murph time before. I saw there was 15 done in 24 hours, if you get 16, that's one every hour and a half, I figured I could do that. My fastest time is 36 minutes so I could definitely keep up for every hour and a half."

Davis began the workouts at 6 p.m. on Sunday. He hit his target of 16 Murphs (totaling 32 miles, 4,800 squats, 3,200 pushups and 1,600 pullups, all in a weighted vest) in approximately 22 hours, setting a new world Murph record albeit an unofficial one, as his challenge was completed outside of a competition setting.
