The Keanu-ssaince Continues With Keanu Reeves' SpongeBob Movie Cameo

Keanu Is Inexplicably in the new 'SpongeBob' Movie
  • Keanu Reeves is inexplicably in the new SpongeBob SquarePants movie.
  • You may ask why, but we ask why not?
  • He plays a sage, who is also made of sage.

We are in the midst of the Keanussance . Everyone knows that. Not only has our man Keanu Reeves been crushing it in insanely fun action movies like the John Wick series, and meme-filled comedic turns in the likes of Netflix's Always Be My Maybe , but now he's inexplicably sharing the screen with...SpongeBob Squarepants. No, we have no idea why this is happening. But also, hear us out: why not?

About halfway through the trailer for the new SpongeBob Squarepants movie, appropriately titled The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge on the Run, A familiar face shows up. Yes, as you surely woke up and expected, Keanu Reeves is playing a Sage, his bearded face projected onto an animated tumbleweed. "Call me sage," he tells SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick the Starfish. "I'm made out of sage and I am a sage, so it works out pretty well" Truly remarkable stuff.

This role in the SpongeBob movie is only the latest in a series of comedic and/or self-deprecating roles that Keanu's taken on; he appeared as himself alongside celebrities like Peter Dinklage in Zach Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns: The Movie, voiced the very funny Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4, and next year will finally be stepping back into his Bill and Ted shoes for the first time since 1991.

The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie: Sponge On The Run movie hits theaters in May 2020, at which point they should probably end the race for next year's Oscars. The race for Best Supporting Actor will come to a clean close after Keanu's transcendent performance as "Sage," obviously.
