Liam Neeson says he's going to kick ass until he dies
Rumors of the actor's retirement from action films have been greatly exaggerated.
The 65-year-old actor crushed dreams earlier this month when he announced he was done with action movies (Or at least that's what it sounded like). But it was all a lie. A beautiful, terrible lie. The actor recently did a complete 180 when he told Variety,"I’m going to be doing action movies until they bury me in the ground. I’m unretired.”
Until they bury me in the ground. You can add "coining money catch-phrases" to Neeson's particular set of skills. The actor rocketed to action-star glory in 2008's Taken, playing a man who single-handedly takes on what appears to be an entire Eastern European mafia group after they kidnap his daughter. He has since starred in a number of action films portraying the same "me-against-the-world" character that's pretty hard not to like. (In The Grey Neeson takes on an entire pack of wolves. He obviously brushed up on his survival skills, and you should, too.)
According to Sky News, Neeson allegedly said he was done with action films because he wasn't sure audiences would continue to believe his casting "They're still throwing serious money at me to do that stuff," he said at the Toronto Film Festival, "I'm like: 'Guy's I'm sixty-f******-five.' Audiences are eventually going to go: 'Come on.'"
Nah, man. We won't. And if the day ever comes that you're having to beat bad guys with your cane, not going to lie, we'd probably still watch it. (Wait, he's 65? Here are some tips for you to age as brilliantly as Neeson.)
Neeson stands out among action stars by being anything but typical. He's not jacked as hell Bruce Willis or stunt-man extraordinaire Tom Cruise. He's bad-ass Liam Neeson who's so cool he could eradicate an entire country of corruption one slum lord at a time, play a casual nine holes of golf, and still be home by 5.
Does this mean another Taken is on the books? All we know is what we're doing tonight, and it rhymes with Diam Weeson barathon. If you're thinking the same thing, a word of caution— action movies and snacking make for one bad combo.
