When asked if the Game of Thrones ending will influence the outcome of the book series, he simply said: "No, it doesnt. It doesnt change anything at all... You cant please everybody, so youve got to please yourself."
"I dont think [the TV series] was very good for me," he continued. "The very thing that should have speeded me up actually slowed me down. Every day I sat down to write and even if I had a good day Id feel terrible because Id be thinking: 'My God, I have to finish the book. Ive only written four pages when I should have written 40.'" Martin didn't comment on the controversial way the show ended, saying that he removed himself from the online discourse while the last season was airing, but he did hint that a few of those fan theories might come to pass in future books: "Some of [the theories] are right and some of [the theories] are wrong. Theyll find out when I finish."
