Arnold Schwarzenegger Says He's Talked With Original 'Conan' Director About Making Another Movie

It's no secret that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fan of revisiting his most iconic roles: he's set to play the Terminator once again in this year's latest installment in the franchise, Terminator: Dark Fate. For years now, Schwarzenegger has also harbored a wish to reprise the role that helped launch his career: Conan.

Arnold Really Wants to Make Another 'Conan' Movie

During a recent Comic-Con, Schwarzenegger met with John Milius, the director of 1982's Conan the Barbarian, and told fans that they did discuss that long-awaited King Conan sequel . "Ran into John Milius at Silicon Valley Comic-Con," he said. "Yes, I talked to him about his King Conan script."

Schwarzenegger first played the fantasy hero in the 1982 movie, then again in the 1984 sequel Conan the Destroyer. The character was later rebooted and played by Jason Momoa in 2011, before Warner Bros announced in 2012 that Schwarzenegger would be returning to the franchise in The Legend of Conan. However, that project then fell victim to a rights dispute between the studio and the estate of Conan's creator, author Robert E. Howard.

It was always intended for Schwarzenegger to play Conan again at some point, but legal issues with the rights holders, coupled with Schwarzenegger's political career, meant that the film never got made. The actor, who recently turned 72, described the concept for a King Conan movie in a Q&A with fans earlier this year: in his vision, viewers would catch up with the character in later life and find him ready to pick up a sword again.

"We have been trying to convince [the rights holder] for years now that the way to go is to come back and hire a really great director and to do another Conan movie and have me play King Conan, when Conan is like 70 years old and hes disgusted by sitting on the throne and being the king and then something happens after that. Its really not that far from creating a finished script."
