However, there's an alternate universe where Sandler never becomes the actor/writer/producer that he is today, and he's instead a doctor, or an accountant, or the guy in your office that cracks jokes at the worst times.
In his Variety Actors on Actors profile with Brad Pitt, Pitt brings up a story about Sandler that he heard from director Bennett Miller.
"You were at NYU, and it was an acting coach, I believe. And he said to you, 'I want to take you out for a beer.' This is what Im told. You guys went to a bar, and he kindly said to you: 'Think about something else. You have to choose another path.' Truth?" Pitt asked Sandler.
Sandler confirmed the story, and Pitt then explained why the second part of the story is his favorite: "You ran into him at your height, when youre getting the ultimate payday, and youre with a bunch of friends, out at a bar. Anyone would think thats the opportunity where you rub it in his face. And reportedly, what you did was you introduced him to your friends, and you said: 'This is the only teacher to ever buy me a beer.' Thats the guy I know, and I think thats why youre here after all these years."
Sandler was flattered by Pitt's compliment. "I love you. I gotta tell you, when you tell me I did good in Uncut Gems that feels good," Sandler said in the video of their conversation. "What youve been doing, and crushing for so long. Im so much more comfortable with comedy, and if youre saying I did well in this, that does feel good."
