You've probably heard stories about hidden cameras placed in hotels and rented apartments.

Of course, you are not allowed to record or spy on guests without their knowledge, but some owners may try to protect themselves against possible damage.

How to check if spy equipment is installed in our room? A British security expert shows a simple way.

Marcus Hutchins is a former hacker and current cybersecurity specialist posts short educational videos on his TikTok. How to find a hidden camera in a hotel room has been viewed by over 20 million users.

It turns out that checking whether the owner of the premises is not spying on us or recording us is not difficult at all. You don't need any special equipment for this. All you need is... a flashlight. It may even be the one on your smartphone.

Hutchins advises pointing a flashlight at places where a camera could potentially be hidden. Most often, these are fire alarms, electronic watches or motion sensors.

"If you hit a camera lens with a strong beam of light, you will get a bluish reflection," explains the expert.

We can be spied on not only in hotel rooms. Many people are afraid that someone may look at them in the store fitting room or toilet. You can check it with a flashlight, but there is another method. It allows us to detect whether we are dealing with a one-way mirror. This is the so-called finger test.

What is it about? Just place your nail on the mirror surface. There should be a gap between the nail and the reflection. If it's not there, it means you're probably standing in front of a one-way mirror and someone on the other side may be spying on you.

Remember to take a close look at all the accessories in the room. If you are suspicious of any of the items, please notify a facility staff member. Remember that no one has the right to spy on you in the dressing room or toilet. Fear of thieves or vandalism is no excuse.
