The people have spoken, Jollof Rice is officially bae as we would say in local Nigerian parlance.

The beloved dish was voted by Pulse Nigeria readers as the official Nigerian national dish, beating out other contenders pounded yam & egusi soup and plantain.

This comes contrary to an earlier poll that had been conducted by CNN in which voters chose pounded yam and egusi soup as the Nigerian national dish.

Made from a combination of rice and tomato sauce, jollof rice is a popular Nigerian delicacy which is served in every major gathering or event, north or south.

Jollof rice can be eaten alongside salad, moin moin (bean cake), plantain and a host of other options.
