Famous actor, producer and director, Kunle Afolayan, is our Man Crush this Monday!
Kunle Afolayan is not only a famous filmmaker but also a CEO, award-winning actor, producer and director. Born to famous theatre and film director, Late Adeyemi "Ade Love" Afolayan, Kunle has film running through his veins. He is the brother to Gabriel, Moji and Aremu Afolayan, all actors.
However, he didn't start his professional acting career till 2005. Before then, he had received a degree in Economics and started work in a bank. In 1998, he made his debut in Tunde Kelani's film Saworoide, but went back to his bank job. In 2005, he quit his bank job and attended New York Film Academy where he got a proper filmmaking education.
Since then, Afolayan has been quite active in the Nigerian film scene as an actor, producer and director. In 2009, his critically acclaimed film, The Figurine, premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and received 10 nominations and won five awards at the 6th Africa Movie Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Heart of Africa, Achievement in Cinematography and Achievement in Visual Effects.
He has also received recognition for other notable works of his such as Phone Swap, The CEO and October 1.
According to Legit, Kunle Afolayan has endorsement deals with GLOBACOM Nigeria and Air France, the French flag carrier. In 2018, he also debuted his line of Kembe trousers on the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria runway.
