The Lagos Comic Convention, an annual event which began in 2012 is a non-profit convention.
The convention allows for the exchange of business opportunities and ideas in the creative industry- a sector that is predominantly youthful and full of urban culture.
Stakeholders in comics as well as other art forms in the creative industry such as film, animation, painting, writing, gaming and merchandising are brought together during this event.
From 300 participants in 2012 to, the convention has grown in attendance to 3,000 in 2015. The bulk of these attendees is made up of youths between the ages of 18-23.
Statistics show that the creative industry has been instrumental to cultural, social and economic growth in countries with developed economies.
In Nigeria's attempts to diversify her economy and do away with her over-dependence on oil, the creative industry can play a role in this diversification if the potential is well harnessed.
The goal of the Lagos Comic Con this year is to bring a correlation between the Creative Industry in Nigeria and the growth in her economy.
The Lagos Comic-Con 2016 is event is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the NECA House Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event is organised by Ayodele Elegba and Austine Osas of Spoof Media Limited.
