China rolls off first ever 158-seater passenger plane

China, yesterday November 2nd, rolled out its first ever passenger C919 plane which is designed to seat 158 passengers, and has a standard flight range of 4,075km.

Move over Boeing and Airbus, there's a new player in town.

China, yesterday November 2nd, rolled out its first ever passenger C919 plane which is designed to seat 158 passengers, and has a standard flight range of 4,075km.

The aircraft was unveiled at a hangar near Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport before about 4,000 people, including senior Communist party leaders, engineers and journalists.

According to Chinese news agency, Xinhua, work began on the C919 in 2008 but its first test flight, originally scheduled for last year would not now take place until 2016.

Xinhua further reported that tests on the plane would continue for 3 years before it is out to commercial use.

The move has been described as a "historic breakthrough" for the country as China hopes to become a force to reckon with in aviation.
