With a vast terrain, rich culture, food and warm people, Africa is undoubtedly one of the most exciting places in the world to explore.

In spite of it's very many interesting offerings however, anyone who's travelled through the continent can attest to the fact that there are still more than a few challenges that can plague a traveller.

Luckily for us all, the technological advancements that have swept through the world has made travelling relatively easier and convenient both within and outside the continent.

Regardless of this however, if you plan on travelling through Africa, it would do you well to keep the following in mind:

1. Keep an open mind: Things can and probably will go wrong. Flights could get rerouted and make unscheduled stops to pick passengers, quite a number of the airports leave a lot to be desired, and airport officials can try the patience of Biblical Job.  Through it all, keep an open mind and take it all in stride.

2. Always have cash: Especially if you'll be travelling away from the major cities, it pays to have cash rather than rely on electronic transactions.

3. Have a good hotel budget: Hotels in a lot of African countries are pricey and if you want a fairly decent place, then expect to spend more than one would in a place like Dubai, for instance.

4. Beware of airport officials: Airport officials almost always try to make a quick buck so it will do you a world of good to remain aware of this, so you know how to avoid it. The key - remain polite but firm always.
