Author of ‘The Carnivorous City’ reveals title of new book

The Nigerian author revealed this on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at a reading of his book ‘The Carnivorous City’ held at Quintessence, Lagos.

The writer gave attendees of the event an exclusive peek into his new project by reading excerpts from his upcoming work. ‘Taxi Driver’ is to be published by Cassava Republic as part of the author’s two book deal with the publisher.

While speaking at the event, he shared how his book ‘The Carnivorous City’ was brought to life. He said while having drinks with friends, the idea came to him.

The book follows the events that occur when a self-made Lagos big boy called Soni disappears and his older brother Abel has to move to Lagos to find him.

Here’s a breakdown of the book’s synopsis:

"Rabato Sabato aka Soni Dike is a Lagos big boy; a criminal turned grandee, with a beautiful wife, a sea-side mansion and a questionable fortune. Then one day he disappears and his car is found in a ditch, music blaring from the speakers.

"Soni’s older brother, Abel Dike, a teacher, arrives in Lagos to look for his missing brother. Abel is rapidly sucked into the unforgiving Lagos maelstrom where he has to navigate encounters with a motley cast of common criminals, deal with policemen all intent on getting a piece of the pie, and contend with his growing attraction to his brother’s wife".

At the event, Kan also hinted that there was the possibility of the book being turned into a film. 'The Carnivorous City’ was published in 2016 was published almost eleven years after his first fiction novel ‘Nights of the Creaking Bed’.

In 2009, Kan released a poetry book titled ‘Songs of Absence and Despair’.
