The race is still on for the title holder of the world's longest flight record as Middle Eastern airline, Qatar Airways has announced plans to claim the stake.

The record flight will be 17.5 hours and 9,034 miles long, beating the current record holder by around 45 minutes.

According to the airline, plans for a new non-stop flight route between Doha, Qatar and Auckland, New Zealand are well underway with the service due to start on December 3rd.
According to Qatar Air, its daily service will use a Boeing 777 and carry a maximum of 259 passengers.
Speaking on the development, Qatar Airways chief executive, Akbar Al Baker said:
"Qatar Airways prides itself on being a global connector, and most importantly, providing seamless and convenient connections for our customers, so that we remain their airline of choice."
Several airlines including Singapore Airlines and Emirates have jostling to claim the title of world's longest flight, and earlier in the month, Emirates' Dubai-Auckland 8,819-mile route claimed the position.
