Here are 5 reasons why you should visit Enugu at least once

The beautiful coal city state is a perfect assemblage of good weather, beautiful hills and hidden treasures.

The main city of Enugu wasn't always the metropolis that it is now. It has gained attention with the establishment of signature ferris wheel at the Polo mall and the Oakland amusement park. However, there are other attractions in the smaller towns and villages.

1. Go chasing waterfalls

Enugu is famous for its many waterfalls. Ngwo pine forest and waterfall is the embodiment of peacefulness that everyone should experience. It is located just 30 minutes away from the main city of Enugu and is a perfect for hiking, sight-seeing and picnics. Awhum cave and waterfall is also a point of attraction for those eager to chase waterfalls.

2. Explore the many caves

In addition to chasing waterfalls, you will come across many spectacular caves in Enugu. In addition to Ngwo and Awhum (which double as a monastery), Ezeagu tourism complex has a warm springs, a glorious waterfall and the Ogba caves which are rumoured to connect to Ogbunike caves. The tourism complex is located in Ihuezi village, Obinafoa in Ezeagu Local Government.

3. Enjoy the native delicacies

Ninth-mile, Enugu is the headquarters of the famous Okpa. Okpa is a spicy street snack and no-one knows how to make Okpa like Enugu. You can also find native delicacies like Fio fio/Achicha, Abacha (African salad), Nkwobi and lots more.

4. Visit the National Museum

The national museum of unity was established to celebrate the diversity of Nigerian cultures, after the Biafran war. It contains 3 galleries: Unity gallery which celebrates the cultures of Nigeria; the Igbo gallery which celebrates Igbo history and culture; and the Coal City gallery which displays artefacts from historical Enugu. There is also a section for temporary art exhibitions.

5. Discover Enugu's intellectual, fitfam and creative community

Enugu is a mystery. Amongst the many things you can do in Enugu, you can join a philosophy circle as an intellectual, or join a hiking/adventure group to explore all the amazing hills in Enugu, or join a bookclub. You can find your niche real quick and enjoy yourself.
