Why dinner is probably the most crucial meal

Breakfast has the ability to kick-start the day while lunch is an opportunity to take a break to re-fuel and re-focus the mind. So what about dinner?

Dinner is a vital meal

All meals are important... but Dinner is the last meal for the day and it's vital because you won't be eating for at least the next 6-10 hours so the right choices are to be made. So, just how vital is this meal?

We have to ensure that there is a steady supply of glucose for the body to use as fuel for essential processes whilst we sleep. A common cause of waking in the night, often seen in cases of insomnia, is when levels of sugar in the blood fall. So it's better to eat a good dinner which has both protein (meat, eggs, lentils or beans) and carbohydrates (potatoes, pasta, rice, vegetables and fruit)

We also need to eat correctly to get the right amino acids e.g serotonin. As part of the building blocks of the body, they also work as neuro transmitters which moves messages around the nervous system, and they play an essential role in balancing mood disturbance, sleep problems and aggressive and compulsive behavior. We get serotonin after it has been converted in the body from eating foods which contain the amino acid tryptophan so foods like, hicken, turkey, tuna (fresh rather than tinned), soya beans, nuts, seeds and bananas are the best.

Dinner gives us a great opportunity to meet with friends, family and loved ones especially giving how busy our days turn to be. Although the percentage of workers who actually sit for family dinners are struggling, dinners are to of help. Teenager prefer eating in their rooms which can encourage poor eating habits and choices and it also, just as importantly, means that parents, kids or partners don’t really get a chance to ‘check-in’ with each other.
