Get the right tools ready

You need to acquire a good smoothie maker or a high quality blender. You also need to have a chopping board, preferably plastic and a knife.

Use liquids

Smoothies require liquids. For those that cannot tolerate milk, using water or non-dairy cream also works. When all the ingredients are ready, add liquid to the blender first. This will help the blades move more fluidly. Be careful not to use too much liquid though, as it will overshadow or water down the fruity taste of your smoothie.

Add your fruits and ice

Add your fruits to the blender. It could be fresh fruits and ice or frozen diced up fruits. Frozen fruits are preferable because your smoothie comes out cool and refreshing instantly, so there is no need to refrigerate again. Also, it may take a while for the blender to crush the ice and blend fruits properly. But if you are a sucker for fresh fruits and no ice, you can go ahead and throw them in. Smoothie will still come out great.

Don’t forget your base

To make your smoothie creamy, it is advisable to have a base ingredient. The most common one is banana. You can also use peeled apples or mangoes.

Get creative

Once you get a hang of the basics, try mixing it up a little by introducing different flavours. You could add a syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla flavour, peanut butter, ginger, etc. The point is to give it an extra catch.

Low speed

You should start your blender on a low speed first. Then increase the speed as the fruits chop up gradually. If you start at a high speed, you will have a chunky smoothie because you will create air bubbles around the blade and everything would stick to the sides of the blender.

Once you’re done with the blending process, pour your smoothie into a cup and enjoy.
