One of such food business owners who has grown to become a household name in Nigeria is Chef Fregz.
The Knorr Taste Quest season 3 judge was a recent guest at Pulse TV where he spoke on challenges in the food business and while he acknowledged the profitability in it, he also pointed out the many challenges of the business notably staff and overhead costs.
"Food business is not the easiest thing I won't lie. People say 'you chefs and caterers make so much money'. We make decent money, I'm grateful but do you know what our overheads are like? You have to deal with spoilage, which is a cost on its own. When stuff goes bad in your freezer, that's money you've literarily lost"
He also added that money goes into uniforms and kitchen equipment, but pointed out the biggest challenge he had with the business is staff.
"I have a great team at Chef Fregz but it's a prayerful battle to get them to be consistent and have good ethic. Even with me because I like to think of myself as an employee of Chef Fregz, there's a discipline we all need to put ourselves through everyday"
