No African museum made world's most popular museums list

Despite the many historic museums on the continent, Africa failed to make an appearance on the top 20 spot.

The TEA/AECOM Global Attractions Attendance Report's museum rankings for 2015 has been released and no African museum made the top 20 cut.

The 2015 museum ranking saw Paris' Louvre museum land on the number 1 spot for the 4th year running with 8.7 million visitors.

Meanwhile London had a total of 6 museums in the top 20 spot, which was higher than any other city on the list.

Washington DC was the next with 4 museums, and Beijing had 3 while New York and Paris tied with 2 museums each.

1. Louvre, Paris, France (8,700,000 visitors)

2. National Museum of China, Beijing, China (7,290,000)

3. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C., United States (6,900,000)

5. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, United States (6,300,000)
