Hollywood actress and mother of 3, Thandie Newton, is the cover girl for New African Woman’s August/September edition.

Renowned for blockbuster movies and most recently as lead star in Biyi Bandele’s adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's hit novel Half a Yellow Sun alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The actress shows a whole new side in an exclusive interview which she exclusively shared with the New African Woman Editor reGina Jane Jere whom she invited into her Malibu home for an exclusive interview.

" I believe everything starts with Africa,” says the Cambridge University anthropology graduate, “It takes inspirational leaders, inspirational politicians to see the benefits of having their potential voters [women] succeeding in life. But many of the African leaders are so removed from their people. It is like a fish ruling a horse!”

The actress is also categorical of the role African leaders are playing to make Africa a better place for its women, more so that the African Union declared 2015 as 'Year of Women’s Empowerment'.

“African leaders can do more to end the impunity of violence against women,” she adds.

In the revealing interview, Newton also talks about her life as a mother and the need to support the African fashion and creative industry.
