Celebrity stylist says Nigerian beauty industry has great potentials

The US based beauty expert, who has worked for Chanel Cosmetics, said that the beauty industry has a lot of potentials that have remained untapped.

The US based beauty expert, who has worked for the likes of Chanel Cosmetics, and Estee Lauder Cosmetic Company, said that the beauty industry has a lot of potentials that have remained untapped.

“ONYC Hair is my first Brand. I put in all I have and I’m grateful for it. One obstacle does not equate failure. I was scammed during the initial stage of starting my brand, both financially and from partners overseas that sent me very low-quality products. If I had given up or been selfish enough to send bad products to my new customers, I would not be here right now,” she said.

Okoro further cited the challenges she has had to face in the course of setting up an international brand to include language barrier, especially from conversations and negotiations with the Chinese, as well as long hours spent in flight.

In this era when migrants are being abducted and sold into slavery, she called on young Nigerians to follow their passion if they truly believe in it.

“Do not start a business or career in which you have no interest or knowledge. We cannot all be doctors, nurses and entrepreneurs. Start a business if you truly understand that business and truly know you have what it takes,” she urged.

She recalls that before migrating to the United States, she was just a typical Nigerian young girl who got into the University of Abuja. It was during that time that she met her husband.

“After my graduation, we moved to South Africa for two years due to his job and then finally moved to the U.S. While in South Africa, I went to an International beauty school in Johannesburg which helped me secure an excellent job with Estee Lauder Cosmetic Company,” she revealed.
