New York Fashion Week is back! The anticipated fashion event officially kicks off today, Wednesday, February 10, through Thursday, February 18. We can’t wait to see the Fall 2016 season.
Ahead of the week, there’s already been a lot of buzz, from fans roaring over Kanye West’s upcoming show turned concert or the fact that ready to wear collections are becoming the standard, not the exception. Here are 5 of the biggest show happenings that people will be buzzing about:
Kanye take over: Yeezy Season 3 is already the most talked about event during NYFW without happening yet. Kanye West’s Madison Square Garden affair guarantees the debut of his album, 'Clop'; a staggering celebrity front row; a massive Vanessa Beecroft performance and the newest shoe to covet from Yeezy.
Straight to retail collections: The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) may be craving direct-to-consumer showcases, but some designers are already on it. Rebecca Minkoff will present an entirely straight to retail Spring collection, and apparently some other well known brands, will also be showing items available for sale after the show.
Alexander Wang’s arrival: No one has as much fun at NYFW as Alexander Wang, whose A-list shows boast the best soundtrack and models and, as of September, the best after-party. This season may be even bigger as the beloved designer is free of his commitments in Paris with Balenciaga. so he’ll be focused solely on his own brand.
Rihanna’s debut: Rihanna has been in the front row for years, however, this week she’ll showcase her first collection for Puma on the runway. You can expect offbeat styling and sneakers that the fashion set will be instantly craving.
The ’90s make a comeback: Fan favorite ’90s designers Mayle and Xuly Bet are coming back to NYFW for the Fall 2016 shows, while industry legend Ralph Rucci is planning a comeback with a new line called ‘rr331’.
Los Angeles steals the show: Yes, NYFW is taking place in New york. However, Saint Laurent’s February 10 concert-cum-runway in LA is possibly going to steal the spotlight. California’s coolest artists, actors, models, and musicians will be present and may perform, added to rumors that Hedi Slimane is leaving Saint Laurent and you have a buzzing show.
